Bye Bye Baos! :( Its the last round of eliminations on OMG! before the Grand Finals on 17 November, and the Contender that got the boot tonight, was the Singapore Char Siew Baos!
After a pretty successful 9-week run as part of the OMG! family, the goodbyes got kinda hard tonight. Especially for those who've bonded over the past few months. Even I couldn't help but tear up when I gave Ruby a hug (note to self : do not hug eliminated contestants, tears will flow - so unprofessional!) The Singapore Char Siew Baos! joined us in Episode 4 of OMG! and have survived a few rounds of being in the bottom 3, countless brutal comments, an scary non-elimination round and of course the usual rounds of 'what-are-we-gonna-do-next-week discussions, amongst themselves and with producers. And just short of one week in completing that 'race' to the finish line, it was not meant to be.
Here is their exit interview, shot on the fly, as they were leaving Studio 1. Only Jill-Marie Thomas and Luminiq Crew are left from the original Top 8. And Luminiq Crew is the only Contender who has been with the show from Day One. Jill joined us on Episode 3.
How they remained so happy and shiny throughout the competition is a testament to their support of each other and the group's overall positive mindset. Thank you Ruby, Jacob, Jason and Dominic for the wonderful, happy music you have given us week after week, both on the OMG stage and at the roadshows. Your humour, warmth and genuine-ness will be missed (also I think Suresh will miss not having your guitar cables and what not on hand at every roadshow bwahahahah! Sorry, inside joke a bit!). We'll also miss your matching outfits and cheesy side-step moves. Old school talentime rawked!
It has been a pleasure working with you guys, can't wait to catch up again. You can catch the Baos! this Sunday at the OMG! Plaza Singapura Roadshow, 5pm. They're making a special appearance in support of the show and the finalists :) Sweet right? Plus, you'll see them perform again (not as part of the competition) as part of the Top 8 on the night of the Grand Finals too (November 17th, mark that date down now!).
People are voting .... Looks like people are starting to get used to the OMG! format and voting and most importantly, making themselves - the viewers - heard. . Last night's bottom 3 surprised me a little. You guys have definitely been busy calling and sms-ing because Jill-Marie Thomas and the Baos! who were in last week's bottom three have obviously moved up the ranks a little. Enough to land Vertical Dancers and Rhythm 'N' Moves in the bottom three along with the Capoeira Association of Singapore.
I didn't manage to catch the Capoeiristas who left really quickly after their elimination. They were jumping for joy all the way up to makeup and all the way out to the lift. Every single one of them had big smiles on their faces - apparently they had a big trip to Indonesia that just came up and had they stayed on the show, they wouldn't have been able to make it. At least that exit was a happy one (a VERY happy one from the looks of it haha) - we wish you well dudes, your fab moves are AWESOME k!
I DID manage to catch Derek, Fen and Liang Bin at the changing rooms and here's their exit video. Sigh, it was pretty sad to see them go, over the weeks we've all gotten to know each other, so it sad to see another member of the 'OMG Family' leave.
What's a bigger pity is that we didn't get to see the routine they had lined up for us. Check out their outfits - ready for combat! They had mad props can - guns, knives and an M-16 (ok maybe not M-16 but it was a rather large and realistic machine gun!). PLUS, they were gonna rapel down ropes as their entrance. Phwoar, sure damn drama and action packed type - how that tied to the Singapore Dream I am not sure - maybe something to do with Civil Defence? National Service?
Ah well, whatever it is, we will never get to see it :( .... I'm now really thinking maybe the idea of a 'swansong' performance on the show ain't such a bad idea ...
Anyway, thanks Rhythm 'N' Moves and Capoeiristas for some great entertainment. Good luck in all your future undertakings, we hope you'll look back on your time at OMG! with fond memories ...
OMG's First Solo Elimination - David Lin Somehow, during the Survival Rounds, when someone got eliminated from the show, it didn't feel as brutal.Tonight, it felt really brutal. Some more the spotlight for the eliminated person was red versus the green spots on the other two who were safe. Fwah - brutal k!
Ok, C-Murda's exit was painful for many, but by and large, I guess because a few people were sent packing every week, it didn't seem so brutal. Tonight, David Lin was the only one going home, and to do it at the start of the show, as opposed to the end of the show, just made it all the more painful to watch - he would have prepared all week to perform, but wouldn't get to at all. Ouch.
Then again, its David. He's chill. So we should chill too. Thats why we love David, he's just chill. Check out the exit video I recorded with him after he left the stage.
David was in the bottom 3 based on Judges' ranking last week. Fair enough that his vocals weren't stellar last week, totally overwhelmed by Jack & Rai and their band. But I had thought his fans would have voted enough to keep him safe. Perhaps everyone thought the same and didn't pick up the phone to vote. That's what happened to Jeassea Thyidor from Idol 1. Everyone thought she was so good and pretty that everyone else would vote for her, so people concentrated on 'saving' the ones perceived to be less popular. And lo and behold, poor Jeassea, arguably the best vocals on the show at that time, was sent home. So next week, folks, if you support someone, don't get complacent. Put your vote in, even if its just one, every single vote counts!
As for David, we wish you all the best in whatever you decide to do after this - don't be a stranger and keep at your music, the OMG family will always be behind you! Ganbatte!
Next week's theme is 'My Singapore Dream'. Like this week, the title is open to interpretation, so it need not necessarily be patriotic songs or flag bearing routines. I can't wait to see what the Contenders will come up with next - I thoroughly enjoyed tonight's show, quite a few of them took me by surprise. More in my review tomorrow. Plus! There's guest judge Debbie Gibson to look forward to! Woooooot!

ps. We got some feedback from the audience and viewers that David should have been given a chance to sing one more time. That would have been a nice touch. But so far on the show, contestants who exit the show haven't been given an exit performance. Also, tonight's show was just an hour - I doubt producers could have fit him into that hour - it was quite chop chop already. Next episode maybe?
