Idols Write Songs

Original Songs For A Cause
Our Top 4 have been hard at work writing original songs for next week's show. In fact, since last week they've been hard at work (including Faizal, because they work two weeks in advance regardless of who's in/out).

I know you guys are definitely curious to hear what those original songs sound like - so was I. I had planned to record it, but Iz already did, so here are the vids he recorded yesterday of each of your Top 4's original songs.

In no particular order....

Sezairi Sezali with 'You'.

Sylvia Ratonel with 'I'll Be Here'.

Charles 'Stitch' Wong with 'Before You Hit The Ground'

Tabitha Nauser with 'No Matter'.

Sorry this post took forever...the vids were rather large in size, and YouTube kept dying mid-upload. As I'm typing this (10.48pm), I've still got 20mins left to go on Charlie's song upload and Tabby's is queued behind it! (12.14am - finally done!)

Anyway, hope you enjoyed the vids - which song did you like best?

I'm looking forward to next week's show so much, and the Results Show sounds like its gonna be da bomb with guest artistes etc for a FULL HOUR! It will be heartbreaking when one of the 4 go home :(... but at least it'll be with a bang right?

xoxo, s.

ps. In my previous post I mentioned sleeq would be performing, my mistake, need to clarify that, sleeq will be performing during the 1-hour break in between Performance and Results shows, so only the attending studio audience will get to watch it - don't worry....my trusty phone will be there too! Shall upload the minute I get back k!

pps. A big thank you to Izked for filming and editing these vids! Do check out the Official Blog for more Idol stuff!

ppps. Just had to add these two lil tribute vids in...done by sabrinaathestrange, they are tributes to Charlie and Sylvia. I lurve Sylvia's - the song choice is awesome...LOL But truth be told, Sylvia is more blonde than bitch - SylSyl u noe i luv u rite? :)

Sabrina, howsabout something for Tabs and Airi now - can?

New Profile Trailers for the Idols

Check these cool profile trailers for each of your Top 5 :)
I love watching how they've morphed from raw and make-up free faces to the polished look they now have in trailers and on the show. Aw, muh babies have come so far!

Faizal
Trailer VO : Faizal, with his boyish charm and slick dance moves, he's this season's resident heartthrob, will Faizal be the next Singapore Idol?

June 09, looking like a cute Jason Mraz wannabe at his first audition.

Nov 09, looking very cute (and many say Idol-esque) with his charming heart-melting smile.

This endpage pretty much sums up my perception of Faizal's Idol journey this season, its like he's poised to win it. He has the moves, grooves and style.

Faizal's Top 5 Profile Trailer

Tabitha
Trailer VO : Tabitha, with good looks confidence and a powerful voice, she's simply the full package. Will she be the first female singapore idol?

June 09, Tabby looking sweet-faced, (and v. young! not that she looks old now though!) and innocent at her first audition.

Nov 09, Tabby looking super hawt, vamped up and gorgeous! Starlet!

This endpage for me, is about the body language, and it says to me that Tabby is already a star. She looks comfortable, confident and charismatic here.

Tabitha's Top 5 Profile Trailer

Sylvia
Trailer VO : Sylvia she comes from a humble background, this is her chance to change her life. Will sylvia be the first female Singapore Idol?

June 09, Sylvia is fresh-faced and devoid of makeup at her first audition.

Nov 09, Hello Sylvia the Starlet! GORGEOUS!

The song used for Sylvia's profile ends with the line 'I'm a dreamer' and it pretty much sums up this pic. Its almost poetic cos she looks so good.

Sylvia's Top 5 Profile Trailer

Charles
Trailer VO : Charles, beatboxing champion, but thats' not his only talent. Shy sweet and sincere, will Charles be the next Singapore Idol?

June 09, Charles beatboxing at his first audition.

Nov 09, Charles looking very much like a handsome artiste now.

Love the endpage because its where I love Charles the most, 'singing intimately' with his guitar.

Charles' Top 5 Profile trailer

Sezairi
Trailer VO : Sezairi, one of the most vocally distinctive contestants, an original who tries to make every song his own. A romantic with a funny side, will sezairi be the next Singapore Idol?

June 09, This is what Airi looked like at Auditions. He was 'nicknamed' Najip Ali.

Nov 09, Don't know 'bout you, but I think he cleaned up good :)

Love this 'Man In The Mirror' shot, cos imo, Airi's all about everything the song conveys when it comes to his music. He always starts with the 'man in the mirror' and thats what I love about him.

Sezairi's Top 5 Profile Trailer

Hope you enjoyed those trailers as much as I did. Now here's a fun video done by Official Blogger Iz! It a music vid of the Idols' trip to Temasek Poly yesterday, apparently, TP realllly rawks (according to your Top 5). Check out the official blog for a full update of the visit, in the meantime, watch :)

Love it right? The Chickie Dance! hilarious!
Thanks to Iz for a great vid!

VOTE VOTE VOTE Spectacular 8!

Its 8pm and Spectacular 8 has begun!
More importantly, the lines are OPEN! So start voting NOW NOW NOW NOW! (voting deets & song list on the left side bar for quick ref!)

Vote for the contestant that YOU feel is the most appropriate to represent the country on a global platform... as Ken says aptly in this vid here...

I totally agree with what Ken says. Taufik will be performing for Obama when he visits. Which one of these Top 6 do you think will make us proud when something like this comes along again and the Idol will be Singapore's representative. Think Taufik for Obama, Hady for Asian Idol, the 'Singapore Girl' on an SIA flight....not Ris Low. (actually she wasn't all bad before the Shan & Rozz show, after that...aiyo, fame-whoring is so unglam <-- Ris is another topic for another day.)

Need a refresher, here's what happened last week (sorry, didn't have time to do a review, so I'm due two reviews after tonight :P)

And here are two vids (there shoulda been 6 but I ran outta time on Sunday, will ask the others the same question tonight after the show), here are Charles and Tabby on what winning Idol means to them...

Ok nuff blogging, time to get those fingers moving - and that means YOU too!

xoxo, s.

ps. Last week, during a break in the show, Wubby Matt asked me who I thought would be going home. Although I really didn't want it to be so, I had lost a lot of faith in Singapore's ability to vote 'correctly' so I said 'possibly Tabby or Sylvia'. In the end, Mae went home. If I were to be asked the same question tonight, my answer would be the same, until Singapore proves otherwise which I hope they will do. I don't wish any ill will towards the boys - its just that I want to see the girls progress further than this.

pps. To Sylvia and Tabby, its not that I don't have faith in you, I hope you both know that I believe you are both so very talented - its that I don't think enough people are voting for you(for a variety of reasons I shall not get into here at postscript). So stay strong girls, love you both and good luck for tonight!

2 Idol Birthday Cakes & The Folks Love This

All dressed up like kiddies!

This is the ad for next week's theme 'My Folks Love This'. They all look so hilariously adorable. Check out my behind-the-scenes pics of the Idols when they were preparing for this shoot. Plus don't miss the trailer - probably running now on Channel 5. I haven't seen it myself!

Anyway, apart from that I have two vids to share. Yesterday was Mae's and Charles' birthdays (29th Oct)! So on Wednesday night, the Idol family celebrated by bringin' out yummilicious cakes and candles (cake was yummy, candles...not so much).

This first vid was taken before the show (around 7pm), upstairs in the B3 changing room. :) The cake is from the Promo Guys - Byron and Suresh - Super MOIST Chocolate Cake from Secret Recipe (all hail this fab Malaysian chain - the cheesecake is seriously to.die.for! woot! Suddenly feel so proud to be Malaysian LOL!) Do ignore the rubbish banter going on and just enjoy this sneak peek into the girls' changing room! *wink*

This next vid is shot in between the Performance and Results shows. Around 9pm. The cake is from the Production team. Also a lovely chocolate cake :) Yum! Check out Nurul's antics - aigh, we miss that girl - she was definitely the funny bone in the group!

Anyway, thats all for tonight...good night, am off to Zzzzz...

xoxo, s.

ps. Oh yes, one more for the road....super random vid recorded in the lift on the way up to B2 (Dick Lee wanted to see the Idols before the Results Show started), so just simply record la...watch and have a lil laugh at how seriously random your Idols are!

Idol Day Random pics

Wakey Wakey! Good morning Idol Lovers!
Since we never know who's gonna be going home on Idol Day, here are some random pics taken over the past week... :) collaged so its easier to upload here - click to enlarge....

These pics were taken on that crazy hot Sunday at the Plaza Singapura roadshow two weekends ago where Daniel Ong made the Idols play the Hands & Feet game. If you missed it, I have it recorded.... check out my post here!

These next few pics were taken just a week ago right after the show in the dressing/green room area. Gabby was acting as temp host for Idol TV.

We're less than 11 hours away from show time....

Right now, Mae, Malaque and Sylvia are at 987FM doing their radio interviews (hurry! tune in!) and the other five (gosh, that number seems so small!) are already at Caldecott Hill, picking up their wardrobe and heading down to the studios for what is to be their usual Idol Day routine of rehearsals, soundchecks and camera blocking!

xoxo, s.

ps. Btw peeps, it's Mae's and Charles' birthdays tomorrow (29th October), so if you're seeing them tonight at the studio, do wish them a Happy Birthday!

Singapore Idol Top 10 : Charles 'Stitch' Wong

Charles 'Stitch' Wong, 22
29 October 1986*
Dating Sherry
*same birthday as Mae!*
updated : 10 Oct 09

Spectacular 4 : A Tribute To Michael Jackson
Performing : Remember The Time
Fave MJ Song : Billie Jean
Voting details : Not available yet. Watch this space!

MJ Week Interview :

If you had 1 minute with MJ, what would you say/do?
I’ll be in awe and dumbstruck actually. But I guess, I’ll just keep praising him and tell him how good he is.

If you had 1 hour with him, what would you do?
Ask him to teach me his dance moves.

If you had 1 day with him, what would you do?
I’ll ask him to bring me around Neverland.

Did you believe the child molestation allegations?
I don't mean to insult his fans, but there are 2 schools of thought. #1, there’s no smoke without fire. There’s got to be some truth somewhere when a story like this comes out. #2 he’s so good at what he does and so rich that ppl try to stir sh*t. I’m actually not really a fan of his. But I do go ga-ga over his dance moves, his singing style and his songwriting talent. But as for him as a celebrity, I’m just neutral.

When you first heard that there would be an MJ themed spectacular, what was your reaction? And now that you’re through and will be doing an MJ song, how do you feel?
At first I was a bit scared, because I don’t dance very well and his song style is very different from mine. But I was happy for Faizal because I thought, ‘Wah, Faizal sure can score in this round cos he has the moves and groove to carry it off’.
Now I’ve decided to stop worrying and just make the best of it.

What will you be singing and why did you choose to do that MJ song?
I will be singing Remember The Time and it will be a fusion beatbox version.

Spectacular 3 : An Asian Feast
Performing : An Jing by Jay Chou
Voting details : Not available yet. Watch this space!

Asian Week Interview :
Who is your favourite Asian artiste?
Jay Chou

Who's the sexiest Asian star in your opinion?
Corinne Mae. Its not just her looks, its like, when she sings, it really speaks to you. The first time I heard her songs and saw her website, I fell in love with her. I cried when I heard 'Fly Away'. When my grandma passed away recently, I sang that song and dedicated it in her memory.

Who is your favourite Asian person?
Jay Chou because he's talented - he writes his own songs and sings with a lot of emotion.

Favourite Asian food?
Wasabi!!!!! <-- crazy boy!

Favourite Asian destination?
Anywhere in Japan that has snow!

What Asian culture fascinates you the most?
Japanese culture. They have interesting food, super funny comedies and I love watching the way they overreact to things - its so intense!

What Asian trait are you most proud of?
Our reserved demeanour. How conservative we are (generally).

What is the one Asian superstition you've held on to since you were a child?
My parents always told me must finish all the rice on your plate otherwise your future girlfriend will have lots of pimples.

Random facts about Charles :
  • Is considered one of the pioneers of beatboxing in Singapore!
  • Is a total sweetie - shuttles other Idols to and from MediaCorp!
  • His stage name 'Stitch' was inspired by Disney cartoon Lilo & Stitch (read 8days for details).
  • Has a beatbox gadget named 'Lilo'
  • Laments that he has little or no girlfriend time because his schedule is super-packed with Idol, school (SIM), work (sings at a cafe-bar) and teaching (he teaches beatboxing at music schools!
  • Tried out for Idol Season 1 and didn't make it :P!
summerr thinks you'll love Charles because :
He's genuine. And pretty cute too.

There's no doubt the boy's talented. And I don't just mean beatboxing. His vocal chops aren't too shabby and neither are his guitar skills. Check out his solos on YouTube - there are plenty.

In the meantime, here's a sample of what he'll be singing tonight - 'Low'. This was recorded at last week's choreo session. He's adorable la!

Still can't decide if Charles is the one who's gonna get your votes? Well here's a clip of Charles' Idol journey taken from his Piano Show performance where he sings Howie Day's 'Collide'.

Last but not least, this is a vid of Charles (filmed by Izked at the keycheck right after Top13 got announced) that gives you an idea of the kind of person he is - imo, genuine albeit a little blur sometimes? :)

Wanna know more about Charles, check out the previous profile I did on him here.

Charles' Birthday Song

Get ready to fall in love with Charles....

Charles wrote this song for his girlfriend back at Idol Bootcamp cos he missed her birthday (what with them bein' holed up at OCC for a whole week - no handphones sumore!)

Someone on youtube requested the lyrics to the song, here they are....Charles, the sweetheart that he is, handwrote it in my notebook (must frame, may be worth $$ next time!) on the bus on the way to Bukit Panhjang Plaza on Saturday. Nah....

Charles' Birthday Song
I can guess the lights tonight, are darker in your home
I can see you in the kitchen, eating your birthday cake alone
You don't wanna check your phone anymore, cos every time you do,
All you see's the same old picture laughing back at you

Chorus :
Well tonight I'm sure I'll understand, what loneliness means
I'm sure you'll feel it too when you see Idol commercials on the screen
I close my eyes, I see you standing all alone and so I say
Baby please forgive me, I can't be here today, but happy birthday

You tried to tell me what was loneliness, but I was just a fool
was in Australia when you tried to explain, but I never full understood
Baby the stage lights are blazing but its freezing where I stand
All I'm holding is this microphone, when I wanna hold your hand

Chorus 2 :
Baby for this loneliness, we are each other's cure
So many lovely voices where I'm at, but none as good to hear as yours
I close my eyes and see you crying all alone, so I say
Baby please forgive me, please tell me you're ok, happy birthday.

wahlao. can cry wan when you listen to this song. the lyrics are simple but so heartfelt.

here, watch the vid again and sing along :) now that you have the lyrics!

Thank you Charles for sharing! Your girlfriend musta been on top of the world with such a beautiful song written for her (lucky girl!). I'm sure she more than deserves it, remember folks, its not easy being the other half of an Idol contestant - you're likely to not see your partner for days on end cos the Idol schedule is crazy!

ok, am off to upload vids onto youtube! (ok fine, I admit, am also off to hunt for more Beyonce f1 rocks vids on youtube :))

Idol Radio Interviews!

987FM is the Official Radio Station for Singapore Idol.
didja'll know that?

Daniel Ong said to the Idols once, "Come in, relax, make yourself at home, this will become like your second home during Idol, cos you'll be here every week...."

Which is pretty true, especially for the 2 that will be going to the finals in December. Because each week, 987FM will be carrying interviews with the Top XX on the days leading up to Idol Day and on Idol Day itself. Cool innit? Magic time - 9am.

Here's a look at what went down at Monday's interview with Mae, Charles, Syltra and Sylvia. You can check out more pics at my twitpic.

In case you didn't hear the interview, one thing you all must know - Charles is the sweetest- he actually picked all the girls up (plus Mae's hubby Mike) and drove them all to MediaCorp on Monday morning for the interview! How sweet is that?

And he's adorably blur too - he told Mae he'd pick her up at 7.30am to 'beat the traffic' and when they arrived at 7.45am (reporting time is 8.45am by the way), he was like, 'wow, we really DID beat the traffic...or....wait...maybe it's because today is a public holiday....' *face palm everyone :)* but still SO ADORABLE LOR!

This next vid features each of them plugging themselves and what they'll be singing for Chart Toppers tonight - woo hoo first Spectacular. They all look sleepy etc cos, well, its Monday morning.

Here are some pics from Izked's twitpics from yesterday's interview with Sezairi, Tabby, Amira and Justin.

Don't forget to tune in today at 9am to 987FM for the last five - Nurul, Farhan, Malaque, Duane and Faizal.

Plus, if you just can't get enough of them, Ria will also be carrying some interviews - check out Sezairi, Amira, Farhan, Faizal, Nurul and Malaque today at 8am on RIA.

Psst, follow Iz's tweets today from as early as 730am (thats right - that crazy boy is gonna be following the Idols from 730am! Siao, but good for us kaypohs!

Ok, am off to frost my cupcakes! Its my baby girl's actual birthday today, so its Princess Party Part Deux at school!

xoxo, s.
