Spectacular 12 : Judges' Choice Song List!

DFK choose for Tabby-Airi-SylSyl!
Yay, previously meant to be kept a secret, but after my persistent pleases and nudges, @siproducer has agreed for me to release the Judges' choice song list! Woot! Everybody say yea-ah! Time to sit back and take a listen, and get to know the songs your Top 3 will be presenting next TUESDAY!

Judges DFK sat down and discussed long and hard what songs they wanted the Top 3 to sing that would 'help' them connect with the audience yet challenge them because this is still a competition. Like Uncle Ken said on the show, they chose songs that will "give viewers a chance to get to know them more intimately" (read : emote).

Here you go peeps, in no particular order....

Dick Lee's two song choices for Tabitha Nauser are :
1. Spotlight by Jennifer Hudson
I can so see Tabby performing this song. Definitely something she'd be comfortable in.

2. Superwoman by Karyn White
This song is a little old and a great opportunity for Tabby to 'emote'. Lets see her play the 'long-suffering-victim-who-finds-inner-strength', which is what the song calls for. We've seen her 'act', so I would love to see her pull this off.

Florence Lian's two song choices for Sezairi Sezali are :
1. Your Body's A Wonderland by John Mayer
This song is so 'Sunday Morning' and relaxed, its right for Airi in terms of vibe. Its also a great opportunity for Airi to bring out the guitar again, something we love right? I'm hoping to see and feel his innate 'coolness' and just 'hang-out' with Airi on this one.

2. Haven't Met You Yet by Michael Buble
Cheeky song, which is also kinda like Airi's vibe. But I think this song is more challenging to present than John Mayer's. What I like about Flo's choices are that they are suitable for Airi's tone. They may seem like simple, non-competitive songs, but this is where Airi's challenge it, to make it MORE than just the average radio-friendly tune. And on top of that, use it as a way to let the audience in. Something the judges' have mentioned is lacking (although I disagree on most occasions) in Airi's performances.

Ken Lim's song choices for Sylvia Ratonel are :
1. Angel by Sarah McLachlan
A very emotive song. This one will be a challenge, but Sylvia's emoting skills have taken leaps and bounds since about 4 shows ago. So I'm think as challenging as this song may seem, she's gonna ace as long as she relaxes and believes in herself. She needs to just lose herself in the song and the music, and the emotion will come. There are so many vids of Sarah M singing Angel, but I picked this one cos it seems to be her most contemporary rendition of it.

2. Held by Natalie Grant
I have to admit I'm not too familiar with this song. In fact, I have no idea who Natalie Grant is.
The song's not too bad, pretty inspirational. I would love it if Sylvia could up the drama on this one and make it less country. I'm quite sure she can make it her own :)

So, now that you know what they'll be singing...what do you think?
Imo, it will be quite an interesting show next week, and I'm looking forward to seeing the videos before each performance as I'm sure they will showcase the judges on why they chose the songs and possibly some interaction between them and the Top 3 other than at studio.

As for the 'allegations' of 'sabo' I've seen posted here and there, to be honest peeps, I can't imagine why people think Mediacorp and the Judges are so evil and unprofessional. Sabo, rigging - aiyo ridiculous la.

Mediacorp isn't some back alley producer and the Judges aren't just some random people. Both are professionals in their area of expertise. The judges especially, do not deserve your disrespect. They have, after all, done good by sifting through thousands to select your Top 24. And despite what you may think of their comments on the show, they say what they do in the interest of helping the contestants.
Idol isn't a fly-by-night singing contest, its a purchased format that comes with a production bible and very strict production guidelines which include professional auditing under strict supervision. This is not some mom & pop show.

Sigh, but I guess conspiracy theorists will always abound right? And everyone has the right to their opinion. I just wanna say, lets state opinions constructively with less traces of dementia and malice k? Think. Before you Speak.

(wah, so naggy. sorry ah. but i was serious la about the disrespect thing.)

xoxo, s.

ps. will post again when I know the order of performance :) The Idols are about to arrive at makeup at mediacorp soon (12pm) and they'll be off to The Esplanade for their profile shoots thereafter - so stalkers - go find!

Spectacular 11 : Song List

Just Dance, Gonna Be Okay...Da Da Doo-Doop .....
Next week's theme is entitled 'Step Up & Dance', so your Idols will be churning out some 'dance-worthy' tunes, TWO each in fact (love it, any extra time watching them perform is great!). Out of the two songs, one will receive back-up in the form of dancers, so I'm thinking Glee? Ok, maybe not so Glee after you see the song choices...then again...

Point is, dancers add pizzazz, showmanship and entertainment value to what would otherwise have been a solo performance on the Idol stage, so kudos to producers for dreaming this theme up - about time we had some professional booty-shakin' on stage....oh fun *clapclapclap*!

Anyway, here's what your Top 4 (yay still Top 4!) are singing next week....here we go....in no particular order...

Tabitha Nauser
Song #1 - Mama Do by Pixie Lott
Tabby sings this song very well. I like her take on it, and depending on the backing tracks she ends up with, I'm quite sure she'll ace this one.

Song #2 - Crazy In Love by Beyonce Knowles (with dancers)
Font size
What more could a huge Beyonce fan ask for? Since she's got back-up dancers for this, it should be hawt! I decided to post this vid instead of the regular music video, because it shows B's stage choreography - maybe we'll be seein' something similar (although, er, maybe less leg? We're a family show mah!)

Sezairi Sezali
Song #1 - Mad by Ne yo
This is such a beautiful song. I don't see how Airi's gonna be dancing to this one though....? Guess will just have to wait n see...

Song #2 - Caught Up by Usher (with dancers)
Ooh, most Usher songs just scream 'dance me!' And with the help of the dancers, this should be quite fun to watch. I wonder if it will be an original routine, or something to ape Usher's video....Airi in a fedora and jacket?

Charles 'Stitch' Wong
Song #1 - With You by Chris Brown
Chris' slick moves are awesome. If Charles can mimic those moves, he's so SET! Actually watchin' this vid, I can so see Charles singing and doing a few of the moves here and there. Especially after watching all those vids of him doing b-boy stuff at the roadshows! Go Charleyyy!

Song #2 - Lovestoned by Justin Timberlake (with dancers)
Imo, Charles has a similar tone to Justin. So this song should be easy for him to ace - I think,....someone once told me, 'never underestimate the complexities of an R&B song'. Also, I wonder how the dancers are gonna fit into this?

Sylvia Ratonel
Song #1 - I Don't Need A Man by Pussycat Dolls (with dancers)
Great sexy, dance-y song. You know what would be awesome? A windmachine. If Sylsyl had a windmachine for this song...wah-seh! Sumore got back-up dancers...fulemak! @siproducer.. 2 words....Wind.Machine.

Song #2 - American Boy by Estelle
When Sylvia first said she was gonna try out this song, everyone in the vending machine room (ie the other Top 4, me and Iz) were like...OMG this song is SO YOU! You HAVE to do it. And she is! Yay! Watching Estelle in the vid, I can so see Sylvia doing the same moves, she already does!

Well, there ya have it, your song list for next week! You all likey? I definitely likey. When I first heard about this theme, I was like...er 'Dance' songs for a singing competition? A bit off right? Producers then explained to me that I had to stop thinking 'ahbeng techno' and think more in terms of like 'Fame' or 'Glee'. Ohhh I seeeeee.....

Fastforward a few months later and here we are...'Step Up & Dance' may as well be called R&B week! But no matter, I still love the song choices, imo, crazysexycool is what next week's ep's gonna be :)

xoxo, s.

ps. Wonder what the group song's gonna be....

Song List for 'You Asked For It' FINALLY!

Its just before 9pm, you SHOULD be watching the last of your Top 5 perform right now.

Here's what they sang tonight (and the vids of the original songs).
LINES ARE STILL OPEN! VOTE VOTE VOTE!

"Beautiful Soul" by Jesse McCartney
- this song totally puts him in 'heartthrob' mode :)

"The Climb" by Miley Cyrus
- Not a bad song choice, lyrics are meaningful. Tabby's voice isn't like Miley's, but they are both powerful, so hope Tabby did good. Iz watched her at rehearsals and said she was awesome!

"Cry" by Mandy Moore
- I love this song (and the movie - wahlao cried til my eyes were bengkak) but I love Sylvia's version of this song EVEN MORE! While Mandy's version was fairly light, Sylvia's version has got so much more soul.

"Wherever You Will Go" by The Calling
- This song always reminds me of Smallville (its on the soundtrack) and I love that show, and this song too. Since Charles sang it with just his guitar, I'm sure it was wonderful (this is a scheduled post).

"Virtual Insanity" by Jamiroquai
- Very interesting song suggestion/choice. The song is laidback and cool, but not easy to sing. I hope Airi pulled it off. Not easy to emulate or re-interpret the great JayKay.

Hope you enjoyed the show. Come back at 10pm to find out what next week's theme is. You have just under an hour to VOTE - so keep VOTING!!!!!

xoxo, s.

ps. Am backstage right now with the LODIs, so follow my tweets/twitpics for live updates :)

Killing Me Softly - Song List

Major helping hand? Or Major 'Sabo' up ahead?

Next week's theme as you already know if you've been following my tweets, is called 'Killing Me Softly'. The Top 6 get to choose songs for each other to sing, so its ripe for sabotage, buuuuut....you know la, your Top 6 lurve each other so much, I doubt there's much sabo-ing going on - they're like one big happy Brady Bunch family...practically 'scandal-free' and PG-13 now....*yawn* (pardon me, just sleepy cos its 2.30am, not cos they are boring...)

Anyway, here's how it went, right after the show, the Top 6 each took turns to pick out an envelope that had the name of the person who would pick the song for them. Here are some pics....

And here's who picked whom....

Sezairi picked Faizal (so Faizal will be choosing a song for Airi to sing)
Charles picked Sezairi
Tabitha picked Charles
Sylvia picked Tabitha
Duane picked Sylvia
Faizal got Duane by default :)

And finally, here's what each of them will be singing for next week....(in no particular order)

Sezairi
chosen by Faizal - because they've (the Idols) all heard Airi sing this song on many occasions with his guitar, and they all love it!
'What Goes Around Comes Around' by Justin Timberlake
- I think, good choice :)

Charles
chosen by Sezairi
'Insomnia' by Craig David
- I think if Charles does this with just a guitar, an accoustic version, may just come out quite nicely. But with a backing track, it could just overwhelm him and turn out to be a 'sabo' choice in the end.

Tabitha
chosen by Charles
'Ain't No Other Man' by Christina Aguilera
- Not what I would have chosen for Tabby cos I'm not keen to hear her sing another 'diva' type song. But then again, the song does suit her voice. Will just have to wait and see at vocal training.

Sylvia
chosen by Tabitha
'Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow' by Amy Winehouse
- Sorry folks, couldn't find a music video for the song, so this will have to do. But Amy's version is very soulful, and I think Sylvia can pull this off. Very nice song choice. Good job Tabby!

Duane
chosen by Sylvia
'Papparazzi' by Lady Gaga

Faizal
chosen by Duane
'Always Be My Baby' by Mariah Carey
- I certainly hope Faizal chooses to do the David Cook version which is more er...manly :) Then again, Faizal may have his own unique take on the song - which is good - time to showcase some artistry and put silence those naysayers!

Well, thats it from me for tonight - cannot tahan anymore..3.30am...will post up the exit interviews etc tomorrow....

nite all!

Song List for 'My Folks Love This'

Parents' Choice week is called 'My Folks Love This'
This is just Cheese. Yes peeps, I'm serious, thats the title for next week's Spectacular. Can anyone say Kraft? Oh well, Kraft is full of wholesome goodness right? And so, 'wholesome' it shall be since the 'rents are in charge of song choice next week - no raunchy booty bottle pop moves then :P

Anyway, here's what the Top 7 will be singing next week, in no particular order. (Vid references and full titles with original singer to be updated tomorrow when I get the actual list from producers :))

Sezairi Sezali - Georgia On My Mind by Ray Charles
Awesome choice Airi! Can't wait! I think this song suits Airi to a tee...good choice Mom and Dad!

Duane Ho - Imagine by John Lennon
I bet Duane will be playing the piano for this one. If he is, good decision boy, stick to what you're comfortable with and what showcases your talent. Duane's comfortable behind the piano and it always helps his performance - sure win combo.
UPDATE (10.39pm, Thurs 29th) : Duane WILL be playin' the piano woot!

Sylvia Ratonel - Warwick Avenue by Duffy
I'm thrilled Sylvia will be singing another Duffy song, cos her voice seems to suit Duffy songs. I just hope Sylvia can emote and be vulnerable because this song requires that. She needs to stop worrying about the technicalities of the music and just feel, understand and deliver the song not like she knows it well, but like she really means it.
Watch the original music video here (embed was disabled) for a cleaner sound.

Tabitha Nauser - Summertime by Ella Fitzgerald (but I have a feelin' she'll be doin' either the Fantasia or Leona version....see below)
This kinda song should be right up Tabby's alley. I hope they style her softer, and less sex-siren-y next week, to go with the femininity of this song. But I don't mean prom dress either....
UPDATE (10.40pm, Thurs 29th Oct) : Summertime by George Gershwin (original composer), Ella Fitzgerald is just one of the first singers to sing the song.

Faizal Isa - The Reason by Hoobastank
My first thought was that Faizal musta asked his parents to choose this song for him. But I was later told his Dad is very young :) ...that works... anyway this song has always been a favourite of mine, so I'm not complaining.

Charles Wong - Fly Away by Corinne May
I'm not very familiar with this song but I understand it was a hit. After watching the vid, the song still didn't really speak to me, so I hope Charles' ability to connect with the audience when he does ballads 'intimately' (to quote Ken) will allow him to make this song his own and win him the votes.

Mae Sta Maria - 'Somewhere Over The Rainbow' by Judy Garland
This song is such a classic and if Mae can pull it off with quiet sincerity and power vocals, it'll be a winner. I liked Katharine McPhee's version, although I didn't think she needed to be splayed on the floor - maybe she thought it brought good luck to Fantasia before :).
UPDATE (10.44pm, Thurs 29th Oct) : Mae will be singing the Katharine McPhee version :) yay!

Well those are next week's songs that the Idol parents have chosen. Looks like an awesome lineup in my opinion so it should be a really good show!

Off to bed now .... shall endeavour to watch the show asap for the review...what did you all think of tonight's show - from where I was sitting, it was totally enjoyable.... but who knows how it turned out for those of you watching at home ...

Get to know your DISCO!

Get ready to shimmy & shake and point those fingers in the air!

Sylvia - I Wanna Dance With Somebody by Whitney Houston
hrm, do I see a pattern emerging? Does SylSyl like WhitWhit?

Faizal - That Thing You Do by the Wonders
Very mainstream, pseudo oldie, catchy - very typical Faizal choice :)

Tabby - Ain't Nobody by Chaka Khan
Typical Tabby - diva to the last drop :) Bring on the Chaka Khan hair girlfriend! Just make sure it doesn't come out like this :)

Malaque - Last Dance by Donna Summer
Ooooh nice one...this one always gets me up and dancing!

Charlie - Take On Me by A-Ha
Classic Mambo hit... :) This one gets everyone pointing to the sky!

Duane - Tainted Love by Pussycat Dolls
Very sexy tune.... I also think.... Full Monty hahahaha!

Sezairi - Play That Funky Music by Wild Cherry
Awesome choice...lay down n boogie n play dat funky music til ya' die! (I first heard that line in a NKOTB song)

Mae - Kiss by Prince
OMG, love this song - it always reminds me of that scene in Pretty Woman where Julia Roberts is in the tub, up to her neck in bubbles, listening to her walkman and singing to this song...baadly! LOL!
Took me ages to find the video - cos when I did a youtube search it gave me some weird japanese movie??? Anyway here is the link because there is no embed option at this site :) Do have a look and enjoy this iconic Prince song 'Kiss'.

Happy weekend everyone, sit back, bone up on next week's tunes and break out your dancin' shoes cos we gonna mambo next Idol Day! Woot!

HAPPY IDOL DAY!

Monday, Tuesday, IDOL DAY! Woot!
I'm trying to psyche myself up actually because I'm so totally bummed today....The Husband just told me late last night that he has an all-night conference call tonight, which means I can't go for the Live show. :( In fact, I won't be able to watch the show at all cos The Kids go to sleep at 9pm, which means The TV goes off at 8.30pm. How bummed am I right?

ANYWAY....for the rest of you who'll be watching.... here are the interviews I did with the Idols for tonight's theme, 'For Someone Special'. I've decided to put them all here instead of their profiles because those profiles seem to be getting waaaay too long :) (think its time to do new ones next week for the Top 8).

So get ready for a super long post, here we go weeeeeee.........
btw, aren't these pics (below) just awesome - everyone looks so good! I decided to crop 'em so you could see their faces close up (original pics were full length as used for the print ad above). Nice right?! Yummmy!

Charlie!
Gabby (Ferdinands) wanted to come up with a new nickname for him, cos 'Charlie' was overused - she came up with Chucky <-- eek! evil doll...I dun likey, so I stick w Charlie :)

Who’s the someone special you'll be singing to tonight?
Sherry, my girlfriend.

If you have only $1 to spend together, what would you spend it on?
I’ll buy as much tissue paper as I can with that $1, cos every time we go out, it irritates her that I always forget to bring tissue paper
J

If you have $100 to spend together, what would you spend it on?
Spend the whole day out – nice meal, nice shopping spree and then end off with another nice meal. (2 meals AND shopping? $100 can ah?) Oh definitely, my girlfriend is very very good at sourcing for cheap and good stuff!

What’s your big hope/dream for them?
I hope that we’ll always be happy together. Cos marriage isn’t the final goal. At the end of the day, when one partner has passed on, the other can look back and be satisfied that what they had was a happy and fulfilling relationship.

Most Embarrassing Moment
We went to Wild Wild Wet, and decided to go on the U-shapes slide. I was like asking her, ‘Are you sure, dear? Sure or not?’ cos I was worried about her. But when we went down, I was the one screaming and screaming until the lifeguard said, ‘Eh boy, you ok or not?’….now I realize, she’s the brave one, I’m the scaredy cat.

What do you have in common?
We both like to draw. She draws portraits. I used to draw animae, but I’ve given it up cos I felt I wasn’t that good, but my interest is there. She still draws though.

SylviaFM
thus called because she sings the same song all day, every day, when she's practising. This week's featured song....see below :)

Who’s the someone special you'll be singing to tonight?
To my good friend Nik because she believes in me so much. She sees me like this awesome person and always encourages me, when I don’t really believe in myself. And also to my female colleagues who are all amazing women.

If you have only $1 to spend together, what would you spend it on?
$1, I would buy a cupcake and share it with her.

If you only $100 to spend together, what would you spend it on?
I would go out and buy my girls a round of drinks!

What’s your big hope/dream for them?
My greatest hope is for each of them to find happiness in whatever they do.

Craziest thing you’ve ever done together?
One night we ran across the highway at
2am, the one near Suntec City! We were walking from Arab Street trying to get to East Coast, but somehow lost our way and ended up in Kallang somewhere. It was such a fun night!

What do you have in common?
We’re both laid back, but can go crazy too!

Who’s the someone special you'll be singing to tonight?
My godmother, I call her Aunty Mona. Her name is actually Amona and she owns a boutique in
Arab Street called Mona J Boutique that sells traditional clothes like kebayas and baju kurungs.

I want to thank her and show her my appreciation for all that she’s done for me. Since I was 10 years old, she’s been the sponsor of all my performance clothes (yes, Faizal has been performing in singing contests and events since he was 10!!!). She’s even loaned me a full Kenneth Cole suit which she ordered especially for me from US!

She always encourages me and gives me advice like ‘Sing well, but also study well’. She always reminds me that in
Singapore, paper qualifications are still very important. She also gifted the diamante ‘F’ brooch I wore last week, cos I’ve made it this far. I’ll be wearing it every week from now on! J

If you had only $1 to spend together, what would you spend it on?
I’ll treat her to a cup of very good teh tarik at
Arab Street.

If you only $100 to spend together, what would you spend it on?
I’ll spend the money at her shop and give her some business
J I’ll buy something from there for my mom and my grandmother.

What’s your big hope/dream for them?
I hope for the best for her business, hope that it will always thrive – more revenue for her so she can sponsor more clothes for me! LOL! (joking!)
But seriously, would hope her business picks up again because it was really affected during the recession.

Most Interesting Moment
Her daughter threw us both a surprise birthday party this year. It was at her shop at
Arab Street and it was such a big surprise! It’s the first time ever anyone has ever thrown me a surprise party. All her friends, our relatives and even fans were there.

What do you have in common?
We are both Pisces. My birthday is 29th February and hers is 1st March, so just one day apart. Which was why the surprise party was for us both, since this year there is no 29th February!

Who’s the someone special you'll be singing to tonight?
Fatmah. She’s my best friend, my cousin, my personal assistant (kidding!), everything la!

If you had only $1 to spend together, what would you spend it on?
She loves soccer (and so does Malaque), so I’ll buy her one of those $1 rubber soccer balls from the mama shop! ;)

If you only $100 to spend together, what would you spend it on?
First we’ll go to Simpang Bedok, then to karaoke, and then rent some DVDs and get some popcorn and go back to either her place or mine and watch movies and eat popcorn!
J

What’s your big hope/dream for them?
That she will be successful in life, in everything she does – in her degree, for her wedding, etc. I hope everything goes well. Always believe in your heart and don’t let others bring you down.

Craziest Stand Out Moment
We once went to the airport to cry together. (?!)
Terminal 3 had just opened and it was after tuition and we had nowhere to go so we went there. When we got there, we just stood there and looked at people coming and going and just cried. The reason for the crying – is a secret!

What do you have in common?
We have so much in common – physically, emotionally, mentally. We are both very goofy and crazy. We both look like the quiet type, like really kwai-kwai (goody two shoes) but once we open our mouths all nonsense and rubbish!
We even look alike – one time, she was outside
Temasek Primary school when someone shouted ‘Eh its Malaque! Malaque!’ and she just smiled and carried on walking!

Big Sista Mae

Who’s the someone special you'll be singing to tonight?
My cousin DJ who’s 19. He wants to be a singer too and be in entertainment, so I wanna share my experiences with him, so that he can learn from too, and not have to struggle as much as I did.

If you have only $1 to spend together, what would you spend it on?
I’ll buy a teh and share it with him, sit down and talk at the coffeeshop
J

If you have $100 to spend together, what would you spend it on?
I’ll just give him all the money. So that he can buy himself matching earrings! It drives me crazy that he wears mismatched earrings, like right now he’s got on one circle and one square!

What’s your big hope/dream for them?
I hope that DJ learns from what I’ve done, both the good and the bad, so his life won’t be as much of a struggle like mine has been to become an entertainer. My other big hope is that he goes to school and finishes it and gets a degree, so that he can get a ‘second’ job to
fund his dream (of being a singer).

Weirdest Moment
I remember his 1
st birthday, it was a dress-up party and the theme was Hawaiian. My mom dressed me up as popstar, for some reason she always dressed me up as a popstar. And DJ had a hula skirt. Another cousin Kurt came as ‘balloon’ guy.. and when you popped all the balloons, he had no more costume left!

What do you have in common?
Music. And of course the fact that we’re family.

Who’s the someone special you'll be singing to tonight?
My cousin Nicole, she’s 22. We’ve always been close, since when we were young, and we always hang out. The gist of the song is to remember the times that we’ve shared, so that’s why its so suitable for her.

If you have only $1 to spend together, what would you spend it on?
I’ll buy one of those ‘balls’ from the machines that has a toy inside and give it to her
J
(aww so sweet!)

If you have $100 to spend together, what would you spend it on?
Go and eat some nice Japanese food, like at Kuishin-bo! Japanese buffet!

What’s your big hope/dream for them?
She took an animation course, but her real dream has always been to work with special needs kids. She’s currently working with kids now, but I hope one day she will be able to marry her passion for kids and the skills she learned in her animation course. Maybe do an animation that can help the kids somehow?

Craziest Moment
We queued for over an hour in the pouring rain at Escape Theme Park just to ride this iconic indoor rollercoaster called the Panasonic ride (that ride no longer exists). After queueing outdoors in the rain, when we finally got in, I heard the screaming people and the loud sound of the coaster and I freaked and walked out! LOL! Nicole went through with it though!

What do you have in common?
Singing. We both love to sing. We jam a lot cos she plays the guitar and I play the piano. Usually at family gatherings and Christmas parties, its usually us two singing. We’ll also like go online and check out the chords and play together.

Cilipadi Amira
cos her powerpacked vocals are hawt but come in a petite package, plus, she's fairly vocal too, a force to be reckoned with!

Who’s the someone special you'll be singing to tonight?
I like this guy called John who’s from another class. He’s a popular guym girls go crazy over him, but he has this blur sotong attitude. He likes to ‘kacau’ (disturb/tease) me during lectures, like he’ll pretend to be starstruck and say things like, ‘OMG I’m sitting beside my Idol!’

If you have only $1 to spend together, what would you spend it on?
I guess I’ll buy an ice cream and share it with him.

If you have $100 to spend together, what would you spend it on?
I’d like to go on a date with him to Swensen’s and then the Singapore Flyer!

What’s your big hope/dream for them?
That he will understand
me better as a person and also come to realize my feelings for him.

Weirdest Moment
I invited him to come to the show, and he replied, ‘Sorry Amira, I can’t come to watch you cos um, I was applying this face ointment and now my face is burnt, it got burnt by the ointment!’ Weird right? But funny!

What do you have in common?
Our blurness. We are both blur sotongs. Oh, and during breaktime, he’s the slowest eater. I’m the same!

Tabby 'Bangs' Nauser

Who’s the someone special you'll be singing to tonight?
My best friend Fathin, we just click!

If you have only $1 to spend together, what would you spend it on?
I’ll buy a can of green tea and split it with her. We are green tea lovers! (Tabby certainly does love her green tea – she freaked one time when the vending machine where they always sit and wait ran out of green tea!)

If you only $100 to spend together, what would you spend it on?
We’ll go to
City Square in JB and shop! Cos she’s from JB, so she’ll know her way around all the shops!

What’s your big hope/dream for them?
I know she really wants to be a fashion designer. She definitely has the talent. She has the best style. Right now she’s doing the JC thing to please her mom, but I hope she’ll be able to talk to her mom about doing the fashion route instead.

Classic us...
We used to come up with nicknames for everyone – every single person in class had a nickname, and all the teachers did too, as well as the people that we regularly talk to. And its just between the two of us so that we could talk in code about them and they would never know!

What do you have in common?
Everything! We have the same taste in guys, clothes etc! We just click! Even our moms are almost the same! Both our moms are born in January and they have similar personalities.

Airi
just cos 'Sezairi' is too complicated to type :) His gf's shortform is nicer...its Airie <-- lov the 'e' on the end.

Who’s the someone special you'll be singing to tonight?
Abu Suffian Yap, he’s my best friend. We click on a level that’s beyond chemistry. We met four years ago at some chalet gathering/party. We were both into the same girl. But then we clicked, so we both gave up on the girl and became friends!

If you have only $1 to spend together, what would you spend it on?
We’ll go get McDonald’s ice cream – at 50 cents we can get one each!

If you only $100 to spend together, what would you spend it on?
Eat $100 worth of pizza! Its our favourite food – probably Hawaiian or Meatlovers!

What’s your big hope/dream for them?
My biggest hope for him is that one day he’ll be a successful DJ.

Classic Moment.
We always take the car and hang out at the cemetery at like 2–3am. We go there to scare ourselves! We’ve checked out almost all the cemeteries in Singapore. I’ll like sit in the car and then turn off the music and say, ‘Let’s just absorb the scariness’. There was once after we did that, we turned off the engine and then we saw something that scared us and when we wanted to start the engine again, it wouldn’t start! Turns out we forgot to turn off the aircon switch, once we did that we could start the engine again – phew!

What do you have in common?
Music. We have the same taste in music – like lounge, drum & bass and house.
Girls. Similar taste, but I like girls with specs and he likes girls with braces – put them together and we go after super geeky girls! J
Online games. We play DotA (Defense of The Ancients).

summerr's quickie take :
I've heard from producers that Airi's 'Ordinary People' is the one to look out for tonight - I haven't even had a sneak peek at it cos I never seem to be able to catch him in practice!

But in my opinion, the standouts will probably be the power ballads - namely Halo (we know Tabby can do this well), Hero (we're all waiting for Mae's 'awesome' moment to happen and this just might be the song) and When You Believe (Sylvia's first big ballad).

Not to be underestimated, Malaque's 'Because You Loved Me'. You've seen the practice vid... if she can keep calm and remember all her lyrics (cos forgetting the lyrics always throws her off), this could be her 'moment' too.

I personally am not so familiar with Charlie's song choice, so I can't comment. Duane's song is a classic - Elliot Yamin blew me away with his take - this kinda song requires the singer to understand and FEEL it - I can only hope Duane pulls out all the stops and does the song justice.

Am surprised Amira chose Back At One. Its quite 'low profile' and laid back. But knowing Amira, she'll probably whip out those powerhouse vocals and power-ballad her way through it.

Last but not least, Faizal - we know he can do this song well, he's sung it many times, my biggest wish for him tonight is to get all the diction for this wordy song spot on :) - he will so KILL it if he does ! :)

Go IDOLS! I'll be there in spirit k! Do your best and give it your all - 1000%!

much love Top 9,
xoxo, s.

ps. In case you still don't know the songs they'll be singing tonight and are curious, no need to Youtube it, I've done all the homework...just click here :)

pps. here are two practice vids I managed to record at vocal training last weekend (I was holding off on posting them here cos i was hoping to catch one of each of them practice - aiya so difficult cos my time with them is so limited...anyway...here you go...Malaque and Sylvia's practice vids). You can also check out other random vids I've put up at my youtube channel).
