The Idol Theatre Auditions Keep Goin'...

MONDAY, 13 JULY
DAY 2 : NOT A HAPPY A DAY IN IDOL LAND

Everyone hates Mondays. And today, the infamous Group Performance Day, is a Monday.
Which means, magnify the dread by x10 because the night before, everyone slept an average of an hour or two.

The night before group performance days usually go something like this ---
REHEARSE. bitch. REHEARSE. complain. REHEARSE. breakdown/cry. REHEARSE. sleep. wakeup. REHEARSE SOME MORE --- OVER BREAKFAST IN SUNGLASSES.

The pressure of having to work together (in groups of 4) overnight to put on a performance that will BLOW the judges away is one that causes a lot of contestants to crumble and make many an unforced error. (then the blame game starts! )

To come out in tact at the end of this stage, you have to GET ALONG with your group mates and MAKE IT WORK (sorry Tim Gunn, borrowed your line!).

Suffice it to say, it didn't really 'work' - you mean can't tell from the header?

Some of the songs I heard the groups performing were...

Queen(and now Michael Buble)'s Crazy Little Thing Called Love
Katy Perry's Hot & Cold (like! but so difficult to sing!)
Temptations' Sugarpie Honeybunch
Boyzone's Picture Of You
Amy Winehouse's Rehab (like! but oh so low, everyone was growling..)
The Beatles' Hard Days' Night

Each group also had to come up with group names and AIYO, slap me, slap me now....

VESTlife (and the guys came out dressed in vests no less!!!)
Sweetpotatoes (did they not watch last season when Dick said Jasmine Tye looked like she was wearing a potato sack? But she was a sweet potato? AIYO, don't GO THERE people!)
Beetlebugs (to which Ken replied after a disastrous performance, "You all more like DEADbugs.")
White Souls (hello? angmoh wannabe much?)

I shan't go on. It was such a downer of a day.
(definitely make for good tv though)

I heard Ken say "You go home and THINK ABOUT IT" so many times I swear it must have been a pre-recorded message on a recorder they whipped out from under his desk.

DISMAL. DISMAL. DISMAL. DISMISSED.

Other typical judge comments were, "you all chose songs you liked instead of songs that would showcase your vocals."

Katy Perry's Hot & Cold seemed like a fun choice for many, but most could not deliver it with the right amount of showbiz + vocals. Most lacked both.

And when they weren't crucifying their performances, judges were not happy with their appearance (or lack of appropriate 'performance' wardrobe). Dick said someone "looked like a wardrobe assistant", and one girl group that dared to coordinate chose the wrong colour to wear - "You all look like grey skies."

WHAT HAPPENED? The voices, the confidence and the personalities I saw just the day before all dunno-go-where.... how quickly they buckle under pressure - not a good sign - how to survive the REAL deal when they get to Top24?

All the same, I cannot wait to see this episode go on-air. Its deliciously full of f*ck-ups and fall-outs (a lot of unhappy contestants stomped off to either rant or cry). I never got to see the exit interviews but I'm so sure it'll be full of excuses (not enough sleep, didn't get to sing my part, have a sorethroat, have been sick since last week, bladibla....my dog ate my homework....) :)

Don't get me wrong - still a BIG BIG IDOL fan - I'M LOVIN' IT !!!

After tonight's deliberation, only 60 will be left for Pair Day, thats right, Tuesday, is Pair Day on Idol's Theatre Auditions (see my next post to find out more!)

Xoxo, s.
